Ned

Ned Stark Ned Stark is a character that everyone respects and is most everyone's favorite character. Why?  Ned Stark is an honorable man amongst murderers, manipulators and masterminds. In a world where everyone seems to have their own agenda to gain control no matter the cost, Ned is careful and considerate of his actions.  In the very first episode we are made aware of his personality when he is faced with a choice of letting a deserter face his death by an executioner in front of many townsfolk or enacting his own judgment himself. As audience, we see that Ned has honor and cares about how he is viewed by his peers.  Is this attitude toward life really that honorable or is it foolish? I hope to answer that question through this blog post! Like we talk about in class, I agree that Ned Stark has a very black and white view of his world. He believes that good people are good and bad people are bad.  I don't think that he realises that the good people are most likely mani

Was Dany raped?

Image
The creators of the series Game of Thrones made the correct decision to change the consensual sex scene to a rape scene because it is strongly expressed that Daenerys was being sold to Khal Drogo. She is a 13-year-old who feared not only him but the whole situation. If the scene in the film were like the one in the book, readers would easily be thrown for a loop. During the wedding, Dany, with no one to talk to, was forced to smile until her face ached regardless of how uncomfortable she was.   How does she have consensual sex with a stranger that scares the comfort out of her? With her being so uncomfortable with Khal Drogo, how would she so suddenly be turned on by him touching her without saying anything but “no”. Is it still considered rape in the book considering she is only 13? In the book, this scene has conflict with later events as it describes Dany wincing in pain from the soars of riding her horse all day and then being bent over when he decided he wanted her. Nothing

Ned Stark, Noble or Idiotic?

Ned Stark, Noble or Idiotic?             Ned Stark, the beloved fan favorite character in Game of Thrones, is dead. Ned’s death has raised a lot of questions in the Game of Thrones community: is it smarter to be noble and a man of honor or to fight for your life by any means necessary? Should we teach our kids about honor and fairytales or about how the Game of Thrones world really works?             I personally believe that Ned Stark is an idiot. Ned is an honorable man, no one can take that away from him, but that didn’t save his head. I believe that Ned’s actions from beginning to end got him killed.   I believe that the way he thinks has been implemented into Sansa. Sansa’s poor decision making comes from being raised by Ned and learning the ways from him.   Sansa and her father Ned share many similarities that I believe are looked over because they are on different sides of the fandom. Ned is fan favorite and Sansa is easily one of the most hated characters. Is Sansa’s

WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DO DANY SO DIRTY?            In the thrilling series of Games of Thrones, we follow a multitude of characters, but one being in particular Daenerys Targaryen. Dany character evolution from a girl with nothing to a girl with the world at her hands. One might say Dany imbodies a conqueror because of all the places and people she has ruled in the 8 seasons of Games of Thrones. Did the writers of Games of Thrones give us an insight to Dany’s conqueror nature or was it just a last-minute decision to make her “The Mad Queen.” Dany was a powerful character and seeing her fight for everything she has makes me believe she deserved the Iron Throne.           When reviewing the Games of Thrones 8 season you will see how Dany will gain her power. I think the first place that you see the “Power of the Dragon” is when she watches her brother Viserys death and she doesn’t flinch when her husband pours hot gold on his head. Dany explains that is what her brother deserved becau

HOW FOOLISH CAN NED STARK BE?   Although the world Ned Stark lives in is filled with colors and ambiguity, why does he only see in black and white? Yes of course this may have been a time where people like Ned Stark were taught differently and raised to think a different way than we may think now. However, I’m sure the world was still just as colorful and complicated as the one we live in now. Real world situations aren’t just black and White, but more of a “ROGYBV” type of affair. I mean, come on, let’s just start by saying “Hand to the King” sounds like a job suitable for a kiss ass, a teacher’s pet, a suck up, a snitch… however else you may choose to look at it. It’s supposed to be a job for the second most powerful man in the kingdom, but it’s more like a patsy for the highest bidder. All of which could put Ned in the running for hand to the king, seeing as how he follows all the rules. Many people forget about his loyalty for the job, however, consider his

Eddard Stark and His Lethal Oopsies

Eddard Stark’s decapitation was no doubt one hell of a tragedy. Despite his efforts to defend the honor of his friend and king Robert Baratheon, he ultimately fucked up the moment he decided to take the dynasty’s fate in his own hands. This way of playing the game of thrones disagrees with most of the society within the seven kingdoms. Because of his inability to think through cause and effect, he fails to succeed in court. To put it bluntly, Ned Stark is a fool rather than an honorable hand of the king. Despite proving in more ways than one that he’s both politically stupid and misogynistic, television audiences and readers fail to see how the “likable” Ned screwed up. They’re lost in mourning his inevitable death when really the concern should be on the people he has now fucked over. Really, y’all should’ve seen it coming. Lord Eddard Stark was not long for this world.                     Eddard Stark is lost in the fantasy where King’s Landing plays the game as Winter
