Ohh Daenerys..
Let’s start by saying the first episode of game of thrones was amazing, for someone who is not a big fan of the series of the books or who just skim through the books was interested for the next episode on Sunday. But can we at least talk about the elephant in the room or the part that made us cover our eyes. I mean they had several parts that made us cover our eyes! Sister and brother sleeping together… like seriously, how desperate can you be. But that’s not the point. I am taking about the rape scene with Khaleesi and Drogo (The fine aqua man).
It’s kind of ironic that they added this part in the showbecause in the book it was not drawn out like it was in the show! Which had me thinking, did they want the arosoul of the viewers to compare and contrast between the book and the show? Or did they want to add another nudity scene just so they can add another set of breasts just for the fun of it. If that was the case shame on them for overly romanticizing this whole plot. I feel like they should have done something different with that scene or just left an illusion on what could have happen to Dany and Drogo. Instead of having of us seeing her getting rape by her new husband, they only been married for two seconds and the marriage is already starting off rocky and toxic! That’s no Bueno!!! And then you would think your brother would have your best interest at heart, but instead he uses you as a pawn to make him look better or to have a bigger man power since he is going to have a bigger army.
Dany is a strong individual; she uses her weakness has power and she always finds way to help other people when they are in need. As stated in the Express, “Women more often than not are seen as tools of pleasure - with most of the sexual encounters featuring men taking women from behind whilst she is on her hands and knees.” Which means women are not taking seriously and when they are on their hands and knees it makes the men feel superior and that they are worshipping them when they are on their hands and knees.
Dany is not just the mother of three dragon eggs! She is a strong, independent, head strong, and willing to help other while in need! During her reign as queen she either witness or was listening to a girl getting rape by one of her husband’s men behind a tent. Se order them to stop like someone should but no one’s is listening to her. She had to plea and beg for them to actually stop. Dany had to work twice has hard for her voice to be heard as queen and even harder for her recognition.
Going back to the rape scene, I feel like their relationship is awkward but still good! I know that confusing. But it works for them, they seem like they are in loved with one another. She tries to save her husband’s life, by romanticizing their wedding night. Which was kind of smart and weird at the same time. She is trying to save her husband’s life without her husband she is powerless and a nobody. If I was in the same position, I would use anything in the book to save my husband, so I can take over the throne with his army by my side. But the show and the book are completely different, In the show she was “thirteen getting married by a grown man so her brother can gain a powerful army so he can take back what is his.” http://aidanmoher.com/
So, he is using her as a political gain to make him self look better. But end the end her brother is finally killed by a golden hot shower which he deserves. And the strong independent Dany watches on, I mean it is his fault that he is getting killed. But that’s beside the point! Dany is a feminist character to a certain extent. But she does show misogynistic was towards women who has done her wrong. I mean would show hatred towards a woman who harms or kills my unborn baby. What women would not! But for the feminist side of Queen Dany, like I said before she does help women when they are in dyer need. She did help a woman who was being rape by her husbands’ men.
Dany is a woman who has feelings and would anything and everything to help her loved ones that are in desperate need of help! She tries to save her husband who was badly injured by animal! So, she goes to the women who she saved from her husband men, turn her back on her and did a spelled to kill her baby. In order to save her beloved husband which, it did not work because he ends up dying! If that happens to me, I would be ready to fight on sight!
Throughout the remaining of the season she will grow and mature into the Queen Dany the mother of the dragons that she worked hard for and the title that she deserves.

Dany did use her sexuality towards her husband so he would take her serious, instead of throwing her by the waste side and not giving her a chance to speak her mind. He did start taking her serious when he found out that she was pregnant with his son, the future of the throne and the future leader of his dad’s people.
Drogo was a big part of Dany’s power to grow as she spent more time with him. I think one grows power and reasons to move forward because something impacted them. For example Drogo’s death. If he were still alive she would not be independent, strong, and powerful women that she is now then she were with Drogo by her side. Among having to move forward because of his death and the only person else she ever really trusted was being impacted by her family name. Just like the family name the Lannister’s, they are known for power and money. As the show goes on and she gets introduce to people and villages, her name gets longer and longer. Which I guess the more names the more power. The way I see it its like a list for her name due to how long it is. She conquers or accomplishes and a name is add.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I love the use of Gordon Ramsay at the beginning of the post. You're right: "absolutely disgusting". I also noticed how they made the scene of Dany's and Drogo's wedding night more as rape in the television show. You would think they would revise that part as much as possible when it comes to a visual representation. If the makers of the show wanted another pair of boobs to throw in the episode, they could have done it without implications of rape.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that Dany is way more than the receiver of three, baby dragons. I think it's a cool touch to her character, but often that seems to be the only thing viewers interpret her role as. She proves her strength in more ways than one in both the book series and the television show. I respect her way of standing up for women despite her husband seeing them as toys for his and his men's sexual pleasure. However, I can't help but feel like she feels obligated to romanticize how they became husband and wife. In a way, I'm not sure whether to be happy for her relationship with Drogo or not. At the time of his death, it does feel like she genuinely loves and cares for him, I just think it was unfortunate how that came to be.
I do think her evolution to becoming queen has been quite beautiful. Upon her first days as Drogo's wife, she seemed hesitant about taking the throne. I was proud when she went on with her queenly duties despite her brother's selfish desires. It shows she is a true ruler and that she cares for her people.
Great post and very moving! You've proved how valuable Daenerys is as a character.
