GOT: Rape Culture

Image
In the very first episode of Game of Thrones, we are introduced to what essentially seems to hold this show together. Sex. Besides the constant fighting, this is a recurring act that serves to spice up the plot, change the mood of an entire scene, or just really has no purpose it serves at all. However, when it comes to Daenerys and Khal Drogo, this is where the concept of sex in this show starts to get a little foggy. What I mean by this is establishing whether or not a sex scene is viewed as rape or consensual sex and why this is. Originally, in the book, we read Daenerys and Khal Drogo’s wedding night sex scene as just that: a sex scene. Consensual, somewhat even romantic, Dothraki sex. So why is it that when this scene is portrayed on camera, this sex scene carries a whole different meaning? Could it be due to the circumstances of the wedding being reevaluated? Could it be due to the fact that women throughout this show are degraded in too many ways to count and they’re just follow

Game of Thrones: A Sexual Playground or Child Pornography

Many people find war, kings and queens, sexual scenes and weddings to be interesting, a fantasy, or something that they crave would find this to be rather interesting. This show fits all of those categories, and people almost live for this show. As for me, Game of Thrones is something that I would normally avoid reading or watching. I mean let's be honest, who wants to read a book that involves a medieval time frame, or a country going into a civil war. That is not even the worst part about this television or book series. What is the worst thing? The fact that there is a child, someone who is 13 years of age being forced to marry because of her brother’s craving for power. Like come on who in their right mind would basically sell their siblings for something that can be taken through the act of fighting. However, this is not the main issue with this story line, the main cause is so despicable it is hard to speak of. Well here is something new, a topic most people choose to avoid

Rape or Consensual

Rape or Consensual             When it comes to rape, it is defined differently depending on the persons point of view. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, rape is defined as “unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person’s will or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception.” (Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary Online, 2020). The sex scene from Daenery and Drogo’s wedding night can be up for debate when the topic rape comes up. The way it is described in the reading has its differences from the way it is shown on the first episode. In the reading, she is uncomfortable when thinking about what will happen after the wedding, but she tries to keep the thought out of her head to hold back tears. When they leave the place of the wedding, they both ride off on their horses and st

Was Ned Stark Honorable or Foolish

Was Ned Stark ho nor able or  fo olish ? There is no doubt in my mind that Ned Stark was an honorable  man, but he was  also a fool.  Eddard Stark is the head of the house of Stark, Lord of  Winterfell,  and Warden of the North.  Ned closest f riend  was Robert Baratheon who was the King .   Ned Stark ruled over a very small area by the name of Winterfell , so  whatever  he said was the final word he had nobody to abide by because that was over  Winterfell.  Ned was thrown  into the wolves, if you don’t know how to handle the Lannister's you're going to get torn apart and they don’t think twice. The Lannister  would do anything to keep the throne if that met killing people that’s what they did, and Ned Stark was just one of their victims.  Ned Stark was honorable because he always tried to do what was right.  “ Eddard was a crafty politician, as seen by his actions as Hand. He manipulated the composure of Robert's will in order to oust the Lannister's from the throne,
